Verse 4.40 - The maximum lifetime of the stellar beings (jyotiṣka-deva)

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of Tattvartha sūtra 4.40:

ज्योतिष्काणां च ॥ ४.४० ॥

jyotiṣkāṇāṃ ca || 4.40 ||

The maximum lifetime of the stellar (jyotiṣka) deva is a little over one palyopama. (40)

Hindi Anvayarth:

अन्वयार्थ: ज्योतिषी देवों की भी उत्कृष्ट आयु एक पल्योपम से कुछ अधिक है।

Anvayartha: jyotishi devom ki bhi utkrishta ayu eka palyopama se kucha adhika hai |

Explanation in English from Ācārya Pūjyapāda’s Sarvārthasiddhi:

Now the maximum lifetime of the stellar (jyotiṣka) deva is mentioned.

‘Ca’ is intended to supply what has been mentioned above. So it is to be taken in this manner. The maximum lifetime of the stellar (jyotiṣka) deva is a little over one palyopama.
