Verse 4.9 - Pleasures of the rest
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of Tattvartha sūtra 4.9:
परेऽप्रवीचाराः ॥ ४.९ ॥
pare'pravīcārāḥ || 4.9 ||
The rest do not indulge in copulation–they are without pravīcāra. (9)
Hindi Anvayarth:
अन्वयार्थ: सोलहवें स्वर्ग से आगे के देव काम-सेवन रहित हैं। (उनके कामेच्छा उत्पन्न ही नहीं होती तो फिर उसके प्रतिकार से क्या प्रयोजन?)
Anvayartha: solahavem svarga se age ke deva kama-sevana rahita haim | (unake kameccha utpanna hi nahim hoti to phira usake pratikara se kya prayojana?)

What is the nature of pleasures of the rest?
The word ‘para’ means all the remaining deva or celestial beings. The word ‘apravīcāra’ indicates much higher kind of happiness. Copulation (pravīcāra) is merely a palliative for pain; it only provides temporary relief. In the absence of pain or uneasiness, the remaining deva enjoy much higher kind of happiness incessantly.
