Maintenance of gardens[1] and supply of garlands and flowers to the temple was considered a sacred duty. Lands were granted[2] particularly for rearing flower gardens[3] for the supply of flowers to the temple. A record of Rajendra refers to the gift of land for the maintenance of flower gardens.
