Tai (January -February) festival Pongal

Pongal is also celebrated to show gratitude to the sun, since the sun is essential for the growth of plants as well as for the other lives on the earth. In Tamilaham the makarasankranti is called Pongal festival. It occurs on the first day of the Tamil month Tai commencing astronomically on the 12th or 13th January every year. In short it is a festival to honour nature. On this day a special abhisheka with incense is held to the Adavalleswarar of this temple.
