Introduction: History of Munnur Temples

Munnur is a prominent ancient religious centre both Saivite and Vaishnavite and the same village is adorned with the Adavalleswarar temple and Arulala Perumal temple. It is a place of attraction to both Saivite devotees and Vaishnavite devotees from time immemorial. At present Munnur a village is located at about 59 km North East of Villupuram the headquarters of the Villupuram district. The Siva temple of Advalleswarar temple and the Vaishnava temple Arulala Perumal temple are situated in the heart of the village. The two shrines both Siva temples and Vishnu temple may be the earliest structures of Munnur. Before analyzing the history of both the temple here it is worthwhile to understand a brief profile regarding the village Munnur.
