Penndati or Pendati (servant)
The term ‘Penndati’ means servant of palace.[1] Chola epigraphs elucidated about ‘Pendati’. A lithic mentioned a gift of 90 sheep for a lamp to the temple and one lamp stand by a palace woman (Pendatti) named Devayan Pulalakkan alias Avanisikhamani.[2] Another lithic record referred to that Pichchan Vikramabarani, a servant (Pendatti), residing at Ponnamaraiyar angadi who has endowed 12 Kasu for a perpetual lamp.[3] A lithic record denoted that palace woman (pendatti) named Periyan Thirubuvana Sundari (a resident) bought a land from assembly for 85 Kalanju of gold which she had deposited for feeding a Sivayogin in the temple in the Madurantakam region..[4]
