Sri Venkateswarar Temple

Sri Venkateswarar Temple lies at the Kadapperi village which is within four furlongs from Madurantakem.. The temple is an ancient one, but it is not known when it was built. It occupies an extent of 638 acres. The gopura is 150 feet high. There are two prakarams, Artha-mandapa, Mahamandapa and a front-mandapa. There are 151 stone pillars in all. It is stated that the Moolavar was installed by one of the Pandya Kings. Saint Arunagirinathar has sung in praise of Lord Shanmugar which is also installed in this temple. It has 1932 acres of wet and dry lands which are under lease cultivation. The State Government is giving annual grant, as they have taken over the lands of the temple. The annual income is utilized to meet the expenditure of the temple. The Gurukkal who is in the enjoyment of two acres of service inam lands performs four poojas daily. His office is hereditary.

In this temple, there are Antique jewels and several vahanas which form the movable property of the temple. All the vahanas were made about 60 years ago. Formerly the Brahmothsavam was celebrated in the month of Vaikasi. This temple was renovated. And festival are being celebrated. There is a paid Executive Officer appointed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Board who is in charge of its management.

There is a tank in front of the temple which is known as Visha-hara Theertham. A Pandya King and his dog suffering from Leprosy bathed in this tank and got relief from the disease. Even now this tank is considered holy.^[1]
