Scultures of Buddhist Goddesses (4): Vasudhara
Vasudhara is a form of Tara accepted as goddess of abundance, is Buddhist goddess of wealth and prosperity. She is conceived as consort of Jambhala, Buddhist god of wealth. It is stated in Mahayana Buddhism that she emanates from dyani Buddha Aksobhya and Ratnasambhava but the devi is far ancient than the concept of dhyani Buddhas. So, basically she does not belong to any particular family of dyani Buddha. Sadhanamala describes her as one faced and two armed. She carries spikes of corn (dhyanyamanjari) and the vessel showing gems, jointly, in the left hand, while right hand displays boon giving pose (Bhattacharya 1928: 4211. Sripur hoard reveals two bronze images of Vasudhara.
