The traces of a fortress exist close on the north-east side of the Gandhesvara temple. It was surrounded by dressed stone wall of a circumference of 350’ and the breadth of 4’ it is locally called Chota-Qila. At a place locally called Devi Ka Dham to the west of the Qila a number of female images were retrieved while a well of 6’4” x 6’4” existed to its north east[1]. A Cunningham[2] has informed us that there was a temple within the fort wherefrom an image of Mahisasuramardini were installed.
