7. About the Study

Objectives:

The main objective of this study is to investigate and examine the philosophy of self-knowledge by Krishnamurti. The study relates the philosophy of Krishnamurti with the present world crisis and thereby explains the relevance of philosophy of self-knowledge as pointed by Krishnamurti.

Research Questions:

a) What is ‘Self’ and ‘Knowledge’ according to Krishnamurti?

b) What is the importance of the philosophy of self-knowledge according to Krishnamurti?

Significance of the study:

The present study is important because it is this philosophy of self-knowledge by Krishnamurti that is expected to create in establishing more awareness in the understanding of oneself. All chaos, greed, mischief etc., were, according to Krishnamurti, the product of lack of self-knowledge. This philosophy can provide or become a useful ingredient in solving the world’s problems; because one’s problem is the world’s problems. Human being from time immemorial is always craving for more peace, tranquility and freedom. So, they were in search of different method, ideas and ideals that can mitigate the world’s problems. Krishnamurti thus presented a useful method of solving all those problems through the philosophy of self-knowledge or understanding oneself. This makes his philosophy important in the present world where there still exist disorder and confusion.

Methodology:

The present study is conducted basically on the philosophy of Self-knowledge according to Krishnamurti. How Krishnamurti elucidates the significance of knowing what we are to understand world’s problem is described in details. Therefore, the method employed in the present study is analytical and descriptive.
