The Varnanasara-Sangraha [Varnanasarasangraha][1] is an anthology of verses composed by Nilakantha Dikshita. Nilakantha was a protege of the Travancore king Rama Varma alias Dharma Raja (1758 -1798 AD)

The historical information furnished by the Varnanasara-Samgraha is that the Travancore court was in a flourishing condition under Rama Varma, who extended liberal patronage to a number of poets and scholars including its author.

At the end of the Sangraha the poet reveals the Rama Varma conferred on him the title of Prabandhasagara.—

........ śrī vañcimahendra śrīrāmavarma mahārāja dattaprabandhasāgarābhidhānena śrī nīlakaṇṭhadīkṣitena...........
