6. Drink used in purification from Upapatakas
Drink used in purification from upapatakas—The subsistence on milk alone for a month has been prescribed by the smrtis and sastras for the purification from all classes of the upapatakas (except the sin of the avakirnih). Such sins may also be absolved by resorting to Paraka or Candrayana as expiations. Now, Paraka is meant for one who is strong enough to undertake it, while Candrayana is for him who is weak, and Gosava is for him who repeatedly commits the same upapatakas or is guilty of several sins at the same time.
