The Lure

Ravi Thakur

Suicides, Suicides and suicides
On every page
Of every Newspaper
Everyday
On a regular phenomenon
The future citizens
The Building blocks of our Nation
The prospective Doctors and Engineers
In the corporate Factories
Of Bright Careers and fortunes
In the tightrope walking
Of a 16 hour study schedule
All gagged and choked
Slip and fall
Into the abyss of deep depression
Never to rise again.
The minds
Which solve the toughest maths problems
Fail to solve
The simple puzzle of life
And become
A puzzle unto themselves
And for the parents, teachers and the society.
The fascination
Of a dazzling Golden career
Blinds them
From the basic realities of life
The tempting call
Of mellow drums of rich far-off lands
Deafens them
From all the warning calls of well-wishers
The rat-race
Of the neo-rich
The gold rush to America
Is on
Lo! And Behold!
The satan continues to lure Adam
With all his loyal troop of demons
In a different disguise.
