The March

THE MARCHtc "THE MARCH"

Our efforts were
to enact once again
that memorable march
and sense the thrill
that we had
as young participants
sixty years ago.

A lot has changed since then
as we met
in that AC hall
and watched
fellow members talking
on cell-phones with their relatives,
as sons came to drop
their fathers in Ford
or Honda City.

We started
and marched ahead in groups
of Punjabis, Bengalis
Madrasis and Marathis
and had Dalits,
Muslim in small group.

We felt sorry
for having lost
the warmth
of being one group
besides the cash, spectacles
shirts and trust, during halts
at different villages
during the nights.
