“On the eve of Independence”

M. Azeez

We were the sailors in waves gone long
With hopes found in steeple’s glee
Rowed little siren with prophetic song
Up to the middle in boundless sea

Great mother was she cherished under the trees
Of land and rivers, meadows ever-green
To seek each love gone towards seas
And never return in fetters spleen

Thousand bloods passed among giants to cross
To save her beauty of virginity
And chased the recurring peace of luring hearts a loss
But never reached the shore of eternity

Our hopes reached heaven of spiritual passage
Waited till the death for divine message.
