Poem
TO MOTHER TERESA
(A Sonnet)
To say you’re gone would be a lie, beloved Mother,
For can Death dare approach a ‘Mahatma’
who, before ‘self’ had always placed the ‘Other’?
You now are a thousand-fold alive, O ‘Maa’
Your gracious acts too many to lend themselves to count:
unequal I to attempt even a specimen list.
Much too dark my mind your hallowed life to recount;
Much too mean my mettle to assay even a gist.
Fostering forlorn folk, making their hell a heaven,
Succouring the sick and suffering and hosting them with Health,
you kept on conquering hearts cross the oceans seven!
Against Love’s largesse you showed now weak is Health.
In your heavenly home, plead with God for us–
Be He Allah, Buddha, Nanak, Ram or Jesus.
