In Praise of the Sun

Subramania Bharati (Translated from Tamil by R. Sundaresan)

SUBRAMANIA BHARATI

O Sun, what did you do with the darkness?
Did you chase him away? Did you slay him? Did you devour him
Did you hug and kiss her and with the hands of your rays hide her!
Is darkness inimical to you?
Is it your lever?
Was night dark stupefied without seeing you?
Did it merge in your light and become one with it saw you as soon as
Has your mother ordered you both to guard the world on turns?
Are you both deathless? Are you ambrosia?
I praise you.
O Sun, I praise you.
