THE LAMENT OF KING PURURVA FOR URVASI

By B. G. R. KRISHNAMMA, M.A.
(Rendered into English from Act II of Vikramorvasiyamby Kalidas)

That face in dreams I’d see
If only I could sleep,
But sleep’s denied to me
When Kama’s arrows deep
My inmost heart have rent.
Her picture I would paint
In glorious colours bright,
But tears its hues would taint
And leave me to a night
In sorrow sadly spent.
