Feasting Fools

Mukunda

THE nodding trees
greet the nomad winds,
when fruits fall
and flowers wither;
when words fall
and thoughts wither,
the feasting fools
greet each other.

The roaring seas
greet the scorching sands,
when steamers scream
and robbers loot;
when poets weep
and harlots croon,
the feasting fools
greet each other.

The lightning grins
greet the twinkling orbs,
when mothers bleed
and infants kick;
when gallows bleed
and gods they die,
the feasting fools
greet each other.
