Two Hymns from Saint Appar

Translated from the TAMIL by P. S. Acharya

(Translated from the TAMIL by P. S. Acharya.)

I: THE BEAUTY OF GRACE

The perfect music born of the faultless vina,
The full-moon reigning over the evening sky,
The soft breeze blowing from the southern hills,
The bursting early spring,
The lake that is hymned by swarming singing bees,–
What are these but the beauties reflected from the Grace Divine
Symbolised by the feet of the Blessed Lord!

II: ‘SWEETER STILL IS THE LORD’

Sweet is the mellowing fruit,
Sweet the crystalled sugar,
Sweet the companionship of thy Beloved in the fulness of

her youth and beauty,

Sweet the imperial power that knows no bounds,

Sweeter still is the Lord to them that come unto Him.
