&c., &c. By Vidyápati. The author was a distinguished poet, and,
according to tradition current in Tirhoot, lived during the reign of Rájá
S'iva Sinha of Tirhoot, who granted him a patent conveying a small plot
of land in the year two hundred and ninety-three of Lakshmana Sena's-
era, which would be equal to the Christian era 1400. The Sadukti-
karnámrita (ante No. 1180) however, quotes from the works of a Vidyá-
pati, and the Sadukti itself was completed in the year 1205, A. C., or
nearly two hundred years before S'iva Sinha. Thus we have two
Vidyápatis, and it is doubtful who wrote the work under notice.
Tirhoot tradition assigns it to the second.
Beginning. स्वस्त्यस्तु वस्तुहिन रश्मिभ्टतः प्रसादादेकं वपुः श्रितवतो हरिणा समेत्य ।
तन्नाभिपङ्कजसहोत्यम्मृणाललीलामाविष्करोति हृदि यस्य भुजङ्गराजः ॥
यावद्गङ्गा विभाति त्रिपुरहरजटामण्डलं मण्डयन्ती
मल्लीमाला सुमेरोः शिरसि सितमहावैजयन्ती जयन्ती ।
[svastyastu vastuhina raśmibhṭataḥ prasādādekaṃ vapuḥ śritavato hariṇā sametya |
tannābhipaṅkajasahotyammṛṇālalīlāmāviṣkaroti hṛdi yasya bhujaṅgarājaḥ ||
yāvadgaṅgā vibhāti tripuraharajaṭāmaṇḍalaṃ maṇḍayantī
mallīmālā sumeroḥ śirasi sitamahāvaijayantī jayantī |

याता पातालमूलं स्फुरदमल रुचिः शेष निर्म्मोकिवल्ली
तावद्विश्वासदेव्या जगति विजयतां गाङ्गवाक्यावली यं
अथ भक्तिश्रद्धापुरःसरमेव सर्वकर्म्मविशेषमाह । अतो भक्तिश्रद्धे अवश्य मे व
कर्त्तव्ये, तथा च यमः । —
श्रद्धा भक्तिश्च काम्यानां वृद्धिक्षेमकरे हि ते । इत्यादिः ।
गङ्गातीरं परित्यज्य येऽन्यतीर्थाभिलाषिणः ।
तोयान्तरे रतिर्येषां ते वै रौरवगामिनः ॥
यावत् स्वर्गतरङ्गिणी हरजटाभ्रष्टान्तरा लम्बते
यावद्विश्वविशालविस्तृतकरः स्वर्य्योऽयमुज्जृम्भते ।
यावन्मण्डलमैन्दवं वितनुते शम्माः शिरोमण्डलं
तावत् कल्पलतेयमस्तु सफला देव्याः सतां श्रेयसि ॥
कियन्निबन्धमालोक्य श्रीविद्यापति रिणा ।
गङ्गावाक्यावली देव्याः प्रमाणैर्विमलीकृता
[yātā pātālamūlaṃ sphuradamala ruciḥ śeṣa nirmmokivallī
tāvadviśvāsadevyā jagati vijayatāṃ gāṅgavākyāvalī yaṃ
atha bhaktiśraddhāpuraḥsarameva sarvakarmmaviśeṣamāha | ato bhaktiśraddhe avaśya me va
karttavye, tathā ca yamaḥ | —
śraddhā bhaktiśca kāmyānāṃ vṛddhikṣemakare hi te | ityādiḥ |
gaṅgātīraṃ parityajya ye'nyatīrthābhilāṣiṇaḥ |
toyāntare ratiryeṣāṃ te vai rauravagāminaḥ ||
yāvat svargataraṅgiṇī harajaṭābhraṣṭāntarā lambate
yāvadviśvaviśālavistṛtakaraḥ svaryyo'yamujjṛmbhate |
yāvanmaṇḍalamaindavaṃ vitanute śammāḥ śiromaṇḍalaṃ
tāvat kalpalateyamastu saphalā devyāḥ satāṃ śreyasi ||
