No. 520. पद्मपुराणीय सृष्टिख एडं ।

Extent, 8347 s'lokas. Character, Bengali. Date -? Place of deposit, Cal-
cutta, Sir Rájá Rádhákánta Deva Bahádur, K. C. S. I. Appearance, old.
Verse. Tolerably correct.
Padma Purániya Srishti khanda. This is the first part of one
of the great Puráṇas attributed to Vyása. The Padma is divided into
five parts ; 1st, Srishti khanda ; 2nd, Bhümi khanda ; 3rd, Svarga khan-
da ; 4th, Pátála Khanda; 5th, Uttara Khanda. In the first, the work
under notice, Ugras'ravas describes, in reply to the enquiry of the
sages assembled at the Naimisha hermitage, the origin of the universe,
and the development of the creation, relating at the same time detached
accounts of the geography of India. The translators under Dr. Wilson
rendered a great portion of it into English, a MS. of which exists
in the Asiatic Society of Bengal, and another in the India House
Library. A full analysis of the work occurs in the Journal of the
