Badarika-mahatmya.-A dissertation on the sacred pools and temples of a place of great sanctity called Badarikasrama, or the hermitage of plum trees.' The place is situated on the west bank of the Alakananda river in the province of Srinagar; its modern name being Badrinath, the famous place of pilgrimage on the Himalaya; its presiding divinity is Mahadeva. The work professes to be a part of the 7 th book of the Skanda Purana. It comprises 23 chapters, several of which are devoted to stories in praise of Siva and Parvati; nowhere, however, is Vaishnavism reviled in it. Like most other Mahatmyas, it is of modern date. The Index given in the Narada Purana does not name a Sahyadri-khanda for the Skanda Purana, but there is a brief note in the Vaishnava-khanda on the Badarikasrama.
