Expiations for the following offences are particularly noticed: murder of Brahmans; drinking of spirituous liquors; theft of gold; incest with the wife of a spiritual guide; association with outcasts; venial offences called anupataka ; destruction of cows ; murder of Kshatriyas, &c. ; murder of women; causing of miscarriage or abortion; killing of elephants, horses, &c. ; killing of cats, &c. ; killing of birds ; killing of vertebrate and invertebrate animals; felling of trees ; destruction of gardens, houses, temples, &c. ; killing of animals for food; eating of forbidden food ; eating of rice cooked by Sudras; eating of rice cooked by Chandalas; eating of improper rice; eating of meat not duly sacrificed, or unfit to be used; eating of meat on forbidden days; eating of fish.
