So it may be said that the Vamsabrahmana did not originally include the first Patala, But against this view may be said that there are certain MSS, which give the first Patala at the end of the second and that Sayana may have omitted to comment on that portion as he considered it to be easy. The commentary is by the famous Sayanacarya. From the passage occurring in the beginning of the commentary on the Vamsa Brahmana we learn that Sayana commented on this Brahmana after finishing his commentaries on the other seven Brahmanas of the Sama Veda whose names are given in the passage. Owing to the much injured condition of the MS. under notice it was restored in 1896 and the new transcript is noticed lower down.
