Character, Grantha. Appearance, old. In good order. Contains the eight Brahmanas complete. This belongs to the C. W. Whish series. The Kauthuma text of the Arseya Brahmana has been edited by Dr. Burnell with extracts from the commentary of Sayana, Mangalore, 1876, and by Satyavrata Samasramin with the commentary of Sayana. The Samavidhana Brahmana has been edited by Dr. Burnell with Sayana's commentary, 1873. The Vamsa Brahmana has been edited by A. Weber, Ind. Stud. Vol. IV, and by Dr. Burnell with Sayana's commentary, 1873. The Devatadhyaya Brahmana has been edited by Dr. Burnell with Sayana's commentary 1877. The Praudha Brahmana known also by the names of Mahabrahmana, Pancavimsa Brahmana and Tandya Brahmana has been edited with Sayana's commentary by Anaudachandra Vedantavagisa in the Bibl. Ind. (1870--74). The Sadvimsa Brahmana is a supplement to the preceding which is known by the name of Pancavimsa Brahmana, as the name Sadvimsa 'twenty-sixth' indicates, and as it consists of twenty-five Prapathakas, The last section of the book, which treats of omens and the expiatory ceremonies to be performed to remove their evil effects, is called Adbhuta Brahmana and has been published with a translation and explanatory notes in Zwei Vedische Text uber Omina und Portenta (1859).
