The mechanisation of world and the advancement of science and technology have provided us with enormous ranges of creature comforts. We have used it to move further towards the wrongly chosen valuless philosophy of loge and confort-driven mode of living, generating restlessness tensions, stress and a horde of new diseases and disorders. It is indeed a pity that man, the intelligent being, has chosen this dark path of self inflicted pain and suffering for himself and of total annihilation of life. Man burns and ruin himself in the fire of unending cravings. His dire desire for fulfillment always remains unfulfilled. We went to be happy but often find that the circumstances of life pull us back into the mire of discontent desperation and worries.
“Stress” has become a household word these days; even children are learning this name for the pervasive sense of pressure that shortens tempers, crates accidents, amplifies illness and obstructs creativity. Tension seems to be epidemic in our society. The only cure available is self-control: learning how to take responsibility for our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual reactions to life’s changes. Change creates stress, and in our fast-changing world, we need effective tools to help us maintain a healthy balance.
Yoga is enjoying growing popularity in western countries. Most of us are aware of its use as a powerful stress reduction technique. A quick review of “New England Holistic Health Directory” shows that as of 1990 Yoga classes are being offered at five area hospitals. Yoga is quickly becoming a mainstream tool for stress reduction.
While it is exciting that Yoga is quickly is becoming synonymous with “stress reduction”, it is that and so much more. Practiced regularly over an extended period of time, it is a very powerful healing and transformational tool.
In daily life, helps the person to attain a relaxed state of mind. It provides him with vitality, vigour and zest to carry out his life. All negative blocks in the mind are removed. The body is cleansed of all the impurities and toxins.
Personal power is enhanced by the practice of Yoga. One learns to identify their own inner resources and draw upon the energy needed from their own inner sources. It helps one to increase his or her awareness, i.e. self-awareness. It helps in attention focus and concentration.
The whole science of Yoga has one view in common to gain health, personal power, to develop knowledge and attain peace of mind. It also reduces stress, tension in the physical body, activates the parasympathetic nervous system.
