3(e). Charm to Secure Good Fortune to a Woman

The Atharvavedic hymns, bhagena mā…, etc. (6.129.1), nyastikā…, etc. (6.139), and idaṃkhanāmi…, etc. (7.38), are applied by Kauśika in the rite, called Saubhāgyakaraṇa, i.e. securing good fortune to a woman.[1] In this rite, the root of the herb Śaṅkhapuṣpī was dug and fastened to the person whose fortune was to bring about.[2]

The flowers of the herb Sauvarcala, after having been consecrated with the same hymns, were also fastened to the head of the same person.[3]
