This page relates ‘Vibhaktivilasa of Mangalesha’ of the study on the Vasudevavijaya of Vasudeva from the 11th century A.D. The Vasudevavijayam is an educational poem belonging to the Shastra-Kavya category of technical Sanskrit literature. The Vasudevavijayam depicts in 657 verses the story of Lord Krishna while also elucidates the grammatical rules of the Ashtadhyayi of Panini (teaching the science of grammar). The subject-content of the poem was taken from the tenth Skandha of the Bhagavatapurana.

Vibhaktivilāsa of Maṅgaleśa

[Full title: Indian Contribution to Śāstrakāvya Tradition (7): Vibhaktivilāsa of Maṅgaleśa]

The Vibhaktivilāsa is a Śāstrakāvya written by Maṅgaleśa of Naṭimaṇṭi. The work comprises 31 stanzas and it eulogize King Vijayavarman of Pūsapāṭi[1]. In these verses the author illustrates Paninian rules related to declensional endings. The author has written an auto commentary called Darpaṇa on this work.

These are the important Śāstrakāvyas in India. Amongst, only few of them are studied in detail. Some of them are still in the form of manuscript. It will be a great contribution to the grammatical world of Sanskrit when they are published.
