This page relates ‘Lakshanadarsha of Divakara’ of the study on the Vasudevavijaya of Vasudeva from the 11th century A.D. The Vasudevavijayam is an educational poem belonging to the Shastra-Kavya category of technical Sanskrit literature. The Vasudevavijayam depicts in 657 verses the story of Lord Krishna while also elucidates the grammatical rules of the Ashtadhyayi of Panini (teaching the science of grammar). The subject-content of the poem was taken from the tenth Skandha of the Bhagavatapurana.

Lakṣaṇādarśa of Divākara

Lakṣaṇādarśa written by Divākara is another important śāstrakāvya. It is also known as Pāṇḍavacarita and the theme of the poem is based on Mahābhārata story. It illustrates the Paniniyan rulesand arranged them in different prakaraṇas. The date of the work is unknown and the text is not available in printed form.

The manuscript[1] of this work found from Madras Manuscript library includes 14 cantos and it begins with the statement

śrīmahāmahopādhyāya śrīdivākaraviracito lakṣaṇādarśo nāma pāṇḍavacaritam |

The poem starts with the word śrī and the verse is;

śrīkāṅkṣiṇā sakaladurjayamantrabhājā duryodhanena vijitaśchaladevanena |
te pañcapāṇḍutanayāḥ saha dharmapatnyā pāñjālarājasutayā samadhyavātsuḥ ||
