This page relates “Alamkara (30): Vyaghata or frustration” as it appears in the case study regarding the Srikanthacarita and the Mankhakosa. The Shrikanthacarita was composed by Mankhaka, sometimes during A.D. 1136-1142. The Mankhakosa or the Anekarthakosa is a kosa text of homonymous words, composed by the same author.

Part 5ad - Alaṃkāra (30): Vyāghāta or frustration

If a certain thing, which is done by one man by a certain means, is undone by another by the same means, there is Vyāghāta[1] or frustration. In the verse, yaduvāha vapustadā[2]……., it has been stated that Lord Śiva considers Pārvatī as to be adorned by many ornaments. While indulging Herself too much in the swinging sport, Pārvatī’s ornaments broken or slipped off, but Her own natural beauty comes to light, noticing that Lord Śiva found Her more decorated by onaments. Hence, it is an instance of Vyāghāta. Another example of this figure noticed in the Śrīkaṇṭhacaritamudhaiva vādhaṃ[3] …….
