This page relates ‘Mantramaharnava on Rudraksha’ of the study on the Shaiva Upanishads in English, comparing them with other texts dealing with the Shiva cult (besides the Agamas and Puranas). The Upaniṣads are ancient philosophical and theological treatises. Out of the 108 Upanishads mentioned in the Muktikopanishad, 15 are classified as Saiva-Upanisads.

Mantramāharṇava quotes entirely from Padma Purāṇa the verses dealing with Rudrākṣa and its mahima. In addition to what is described in Akṣamālikā Upaniṣad and Rudrākṣajābāla Upaniṣad , the following additional informations are found here.[1]

Skanda Purāṇa goes to the extent of saying that even if a dog dies touching any of the 14 kinds of Rudrākṣa, by chance, it will be assured of a place in Śiva’s abode, when describing about the sacred potentialities of Rudrākṣa[2].
