5. Literary Estimate of the Candrikakalapida
As a whole, the dialogues in the Candrikakalapida do not appear to be of a high order. They do not appear lively and crisp. The poetry too does not appear to possess a high standard mark. The author very often imitates Kalidasa. There is not much originality in his poetry. However there are some good verses in the drama,
515 515 The following is a description of mid-day. amilannayana dharanti camara romanyamurviruha- chayayam saphara visanti sarasi hauvalagehantaram ' tapamdrsya karagraphutkrtikrto majanti nadyam gajah padmanandakarah pratapa iva te candamsurujrmbhate || 20 "The camaras with their eyes closed move under the shade of trees, chewing the cud. The sapharas enter the bowers in the lake. The elephants plunge in the waters of the river and produce a gurgling sound due to the heat of the Sun. The Sun who caused delight to the lotuses is rising high like your valour." Candrika is described as follows: asya stanakanakagirau patralata haranirjhare mati madanasya harajigisoh tapasyato hanta ! parnasaleva || 21 "Her breasts appear like cliffs of gold. The garlands Look like water falls. The painting (patralata) appear like the hermitage of Cupid doing penance for conquering 'Siva." The alamkara is Utprekshka.
