2.33. Śiva as Ghuśmeśvara

Ghuśmā was an ardent devotee of Śiva. She performed penance in order to get Śiva’s grace to bring back her son to life. Śiva felt extremely pleased by her devotion and desired to give her a boon. Then Ghuśmā told Śiva that if he is desirous of giving her a boon, it should be that Śiva will be lodged here in her name for the protection of the world. Śiva gave the boon and from that day, he was popular by the name Ghuśmeśvara.[1]
