Once lord Śiva and goddess Pārvatī desired to enjoy the pleasure of sports. Keeping Bhairava as a door keeper, they went inside. Goddess Pārvatī assumed the form of a mad woman and came to the door where Bhairava was present as a door keeper. Attracted by her charming form, Bhairava glanced at her and stopped her from going out. At this, Pārvatī became angry and cursed him that he will be born as a human being on earth. On account of her curse, Bhairava went to earth, born as a human being. Urged by his friendship, Śiva also incarnated on earth by the name Maheśa along with Pārvatī. Pārvatī was born by the name of Śāradā. This is the story of Maheśa.[1]
