This page relates ‘List of other Vratas described in the Matsyapurana’ of the English study on the Matsya-purana: a Sanskrit text preserving ancient Indian traditions and legends written in over 14,000 metrical verses. Part 4.4 - List of other Vratas described in the Matsyapurāṇa

The number of vratas described in the Matsyapurāṇa is extremely large. Therefore, attempt is made here to describe only a few vratas elaborately. Other vratas of the Matsyapurāṇa are presented in a tabular form here so that a fair idea of all these vratas can be attained at a glance.

1: Rasakalyāṇinī-vrata[1] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Gaurī;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 3rdday of lunar fortnight of Māgha;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Liberation from sin

2: Ārdrānandakarītṛtīyā vrata[2] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Bhavānī;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 3rd day of bright fortnight having the stars Purvāṣāḍhā, Rohiṇī, Mārgaśirā, Hastā or Mūlā;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Good health, longevity, wealth and happiness

3: Sarasvatī-vrata249;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sarasvatī;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: Any Sunday;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Achievement of learning, wealth and melodious voice

4: Bhīmadvādaśī-vrata[3] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Mahādeva;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 12th day of lunar fortnight of Māgha;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Dispels sin

5: Aśūnyaśayana-vrata251;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Keśava;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 2nd day of dark fortnight of Śrāvaṇa;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Becomes free from sorrow and is blessed with sons, wealth etc.

6: Aṅgāraka-vrata[4] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Mars (Aṅgāraka);
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 4th day of bright fortnight which falls on Tuesday;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Achievement of handsomeness and goodluck

7: Viśokasaptamī-vrata [5] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sūrya;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 7th day of bright fortnight in the month of Māgha.;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Attains bliss, stays far from sorrow and also from disease

8: Phalasaptamī-vrata[6] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sūrya;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 7th day of bright fortnight in the month of Mārgaśirā;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Gets endless fruits, becomes liberated from sins

9: Śarkarāsaptamī-vrata[7] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sūrya;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 7th day of bright fortnight in the month of Vaiśākha;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Removes disease, makes the sons and grandsons of the worshipper thrive

10: Kamalasaptamī-vrata[8] [9] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sūrya;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 7th day of bright fortnight of the spring season;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Gives inexhaustible wealth

11: Mandārasaptamī-vrata 257;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sūrya;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 7th day of bright fortnight in the month of Māgha;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Fulfills all desires, destroys sin

12: Śubhasaptamī-vrata[10] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Aryamā;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 7th day of bright fortnight in the month of Āśvina;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Gives wealth and fame in each life

13: Ādityavāra-vrata[11] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Sūrya;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: Sunday having the star Hasta;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Gives peace, good health and everlasting benefits

14: Vibhūtidvādaśī-vrata[12] ;
[Gods/ Goddesses worshipped]: Viṣṇu;
[Day, tithi or time of observing]: 12th day of bright fortnight in the month of Kārtika, Caitra  and Vaiśākha;
[Fruits of the vrata]: Dispels sin, leads to heaven.

Besides these, 101st Chapter of the Matsyapurāṇa has given glimpses of 60 different vratas.These are observed in order to reduce the great sins. A few of them are Deva-vrata, Rudra-vrata, Līlā-vrata, Prīti-vrata, Gaurī-vrata, Kāma-vrata, Śiva-vrata, Saumya-vrata etc.
