This page relates ‘Analysis of Prativastu-upama’ of the study on the Jivanandana (in English) which is a dramatic play written by Anadaraya Makhin in the 18th century. The Jivanandana praises the excellence of Advaita Vedanta, Ayurveda (medical science) and Dramatic literature as the triple agency for obtaining everlasting bliss.

On being enquired by Jīva and Buddhi about the happenings in the city in their absence, the minister reports that when king Jīva entered into the Puṇḍarīkapura, Pāṇḍu, on the order of king Yakṣmā, occupied the city with his army-men (III.33):

puṇḍarīkapuraṃ rājṣi praviṣṭe randhralābhataḥ |
svārājānujṣayā pāṇḍurarudhat sainikaiḥ puram ||

This is an illustration of Prativastūpmā as there is parallelism between the two sentences. The action indicated in both the sentences is the same, but is conveyed by two different words.
