Analysis of Śvāsa (Śvāsaroga)
This character is not presented directly on the stage. In the second Act’s interlude Chardi informs Kāsa that his friends, the five Śvāsa (rogas) are also fully involved in serving Pāṇḍu.
According to Āyurveda, both Kāsa (roga) and Śvāsa (roga) are of five kinds and they help each other develop (com.p.77):
utpattisthanahetūpaśayasaṅkhyādibhiḥ kāsena saha śvāsasya sutarāṃ samāvasthasadbhāvāt kāsasya śvāsena saha praṇayitvaṃ prasajyate |
