This page relates ‘Analysis of Bharatavakya’ of the study on the Jivanandana (in English) which is a dramatic play written by Anadaraya Makhin in the 18th century. The Jivanandana praises the excellence of Advaita Vedanta, Ayurveda (medical science) and Dramatic literature as the triple agency for obtaining everlasting bliss.

Ānandarāya Makhin closes this play with the Bharatavākya, and this forms the last aṅga of a Nāṭaka named praśasti[1] as it comprises of the prayer for the welfare of all–rains at proper times; prosperity for the earth; excellence for the kings; poesy in the speech of the Kavis and long life and devotion to lord Śiva in the case of the present play-wright:

parjanyaḥ samaye'bhivarṣatu phalatvicchānurūpaṃ mahī
  prauḍhāmātyanirūpite pathi mahīpālāḥ padaṃ tanvatām |
karṇālaṅkṛtaye bhavantu viduṣāṃ kāntāḥ kavīnāṃ giro
  bhūyādasya kaveścirāyurarujo bhaktiśca śaivī dṛḍhā ||
