This page relates ‘Analysis of Vyakshepa’ of the study on the Jivanandana (in English) which is a dramatic play written by Anadaraya Makhin in the 18th century. Analysis of Vyākṣepa
When the hero is successfully meditating to receive the grace of the Divine couple, Pāṇḍu tries in many ways to break this effort. When Kāma and his team fail Pāṇḍu sends Vyākṣepa, his secret-spy to disturb Śivabhakti, the main support for Jīva.
Vyākṣepa is totally prevented by Śraddhā, the close-associate of Bhakti before he even starts his effort in this regard (V.23/24; p.271):
jīvasamādhibhaṅgāya preṣiteṣu kāmādiṣvapi tathābhūteṣu bhaktimūlā khalvetasyābhimatasiddhiriti tadvighātāya preṣito vyākṣepo nāma gūḍhacāraḥ | sa gato'pi tatsakhyā śraddhayāpahato vyarthayatno'bhūt |
Vyākṣepa is never seen on the stage but is only referred to by Pāṇḍu. Vyākṣepa is pratibandha or antarīya (impediment). The commentary explains that to have kāryasiddhi there should be no disturbances.
Here to prevent Jīva from obtaining his desired result Vyākṣepa is sent by Pāṇḍu(p.272):
vyākṣepaḥ-pratibandhaḥ āntarāyo vā | “āvyākṣepo bhaviṣyantyāḥ kāryasiddherhi lakṣaṇam” iti ābhilaṣitakāryasiddheḥvyākṣepo vighāta iti kālidāsena ca sūcitam | āto jīvasyābhimatasiddhi-mūlabhūtāyā bhaktyā vighātāya vyākṣepaḥprabhavatīti tamenaṃpāṇḍurjīvapurāya prāhiṇot |
