Part 1.10 - The Uttara Phalguni (Leonis)

The Uttara Phalguni is the tenth constellations consisting of two stars. It belongs to the Rsi family of 127 Opasiva and is presided over by Aryaman who has been (126) Harvard Oriental Series VII, p. 742. (127) Taittiriya Brahmana III.1.1.9 gives a legend in which it is stated that Aryaman could obtain cattle by offering caru to the Phalguni.
337 lauded by the ancient wise sages. The Aryaman and the Uttara Phalguni are prayed for the favour of gods (1.38.5). The people in the countries of Matsya, Magadha, Cedi and Salva come under the influence of this constellation (1.7.2). The Brhatsamhita by Varahamihira (15.10) mentions that people who have softness, purity and humility, people who learn Sastras and have charity, atheists, people engaged in giving gifts and studying scriptures and the good corns are under the sway of the Uttara Phalguni. It is stated that if a disease is contracted under this constellation, it continues for ten nights (1.33.11). A king should, under this constellation, order for the building of arches and for the paring of the planks of wood (for the gates). He should call upon the enemy (1.9.10). One should partake of rasas and start in the southern direction for attaining success (1.28.2). Under the Uttara Phalgunis one should use for bath water to which are added coloured rice and white mustard. Such bath leads to the stabilization of progeny (1.43.10). Istaka mixed with honey should be given away under this constellation (1.48.6). 128 It is said in the Ramayana that Sita was born under the Uttara Phalguni. 01 (128) Balakanda 66.13-15.
