Chapter 5.5 - Anumana in Crime investigation / FIR

The process of inference is also used widely in crime investigations and in the preparation of investigation reports including First Information Report (FIR). Investigative process runs from the point at which a crime is committed to the bringing of a case to court. For example, when a burglary is committed they may seek to match finger prints found at the crime scene with those of known suspects. This is relatively a straight process of making inferences about the culprit from the finger prints and information drawn. Further actions of arresting, questioning the suspect etc., follow from this inference.
