Chapter 6.12 - Kaca-upakhyana

Kaca went to the forest to graze his cows. He was killed by Danavar and his body was cut into pieces and they were given to dogs and wolves to feed. When the cows returned in the evening without the cowherd, Devayani suspected some foul play and she mentioned it to Shukracarya. Seeing how much Devayani loved Kaca, Shukracarya, to please his daughter, chanted the Mruthasanjivani chant and made Kaca resurrect from the body of the animals that had eaten him.

In the 64th chapter, we can see different kinds of descriptions about the forest. The author of Mahabharata has described the richness and prosperity of the forests in about 50 shlokas. All these forests abound in different kinds of grass, creepers, plants, trees, animals, birds and brutal wild animals and insects. In those extensive forest lands there were lions, cheetahs, and different kinds of deer, tigers, buffaloes, bears and also various kinds of birds. The forest always reverberated with the echoes of the melodious sounds of various song-birds.
