Angada was born as the son of Bali, the son of Indra, in a monkey woman.[1] In the monkey army sent by Sugriva to search for Sita. Angada was a member. As they were returning from the search for Sita, Angada was one of the important monkey chiefs who picked fruits from the ‘Madhuvana[2] When Shri Rama sent Angada was a messenger to the Court of Ravana, Ravana came to know that Angada was the son of Bali and he asked to enter into an alliance with him.[3]

When the Rama-Ravana battle was raging, Angada fought powerfully against Indrajit. Later with his colleagues, he attacked the army of Ravana.[4]

According to the Uttara Ramayana, after the battle, Shri Rama anointed Angada as the heir to the throne of Kishkindha. The garland that was given to Sugriva on the day of Bali’s death was returned to Angada.
