Acknowledgement

In the course of my research-work entitled “A New Light On The Alaṃkāras Mentioned By Vāmana In His Kāvyālaṃkārasūtravṛtti” for the Ph.D programme in Sanskrit, under the University of Calcutta, I have received enormous amount of help and support from many corners.

I would like to express my deep sense of gratitude and respect from the core of my heart to my teacher and guide Prof. Dr. Bidyut Baran Ghosh, Ex-Professor & HOD, Dept. of Sanskrit, Govt. Sanskrit College, Kolkata. As a student I am ever astonished by his profound knowledge and strong personality. He initiated me into the study of Poetics during my early days as a research scholar. It was his great encouragement that helped me to complete my M.Phil research under his guidance. His patience, guidance and affection are the continuous sources of inspiration for my work.

I take this opportunity to convey my deep regards to Prof. Dr. Didhiti Biswas, Co-ordinator, Ph.D Programme, Department of Sanskrit and Dr. Satyajit Layek (Ex-Co-ordinator, Ph.D Programme, Department of Sanskrit) who have rendered continuous encouragement throughout the preparation of my work.

I convey my best regards to Prof. Dipankar Mukhopadhyay, H.O.D and all the respectable professors of the Department of Sanskrit, University of Calcutta, for their love and encouragement.

I express my gratitude to the Librarian and library-staff of Govt. Sanskrit College, Kolkata who have helped me immensely in the course of my researchwork.

I express my gratitude to Bappada (Sri Sourav Bhattacharya) for his sincere help in typing the subject-matter.

During the course of my research I lost my beloved father Prof. Prabhat Kumar Bhattacharya in July 2011. His fond memories are immense sources of inspiration for me. The incessant affection and support from my mother Prof. Bharati Bhattacharya was the key to the successful completion of this research. I also express my gratitude and love to my elder brother Dr. Pratik Bhattacharya who has provided me with essential assistance as and when required.

Lastly, I thank all others who have extended their support in this research-work.

Pratim Bhattacharya.
