The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

सत्स्वसंख्येषु देवेषु सूर्य एवोग्रभाः कथम् ।
दीर्घत्वमथ ह्रस्वत्वं दिवसानां तु किंकृतम् ॥ २ ॥

satsvasaṃkhyeṣu deveṣu sūrya evograbhāḥ katham |
dīrghatvamatha hrasvatvaṃ divasānāṃ tu kiṃkṛtam || 2 ||

Say why is the sun so very shining among the myriads of gods, and cause is it that lengthens and shortens, the durations of days and nights.
