The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.186.17

चिच्चिनोति तथा जाड्यं नरो निद्रास्थितिर्यथा ।
चिनोति जडतां चित्त्वं न नाम जडतावशात् ॥ १७ ॥

ciccinoti tathā jāḍyaṃ naro nidrāsthitiryathā |
cinoti jaḍatāṃ cittvaṃ na nāma jaḍatāvaśāt || 17 ||

The mind gathers the dross of dullness about it, as the soul draws the sheath of sleep upon itself; this dullness or dimness of apprehension is not intrinsic in the mind, but an extraneous schesis contracted by it from without.
