The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

कुन्ददन्त उवाच ।
एकस्मिन्विमले शान्ते शिवे परमकारणे ।
कथं स्वभावसंसिद्धा नानाता वास्तवी स्थिता ॥ ४ ॥

kundadanta uvāca |
ekasminvimale śānte śive paramakāraṇe |
kathaṃ svabhāvasaṃsiddhā nānātā vāstavī sthitā || 4 ||

Kundadanta rejoined:—But how do you attribute the quality of variety or multiplicity, to the purely simple and immutable nature of the Supreme soul, as you see them appertaining to the intrinsic character of everything else in nature.
