The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

तेन तेऽप्यत्र तपसे स्वनिश्चयसमाश्रयाः ।
स्थिता आगत्य विविधैस्तपोभिः क्षपितैनसः ॥ १२ ॥

tena te'pyatra tapase svaniścayasamāśrayāḥ |
sthitā āgatya vividhaistapobhiḥ kṣapitainasaḥ || 12 ||

It is for that purpose that [they] have sought their shelter in this holy asylum, and with fixed determination practiced various acts of self mortification, whereby they have been expurgated from their sins.
