The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

भूतस्यान्तः पदार्थस्य स्मरणं स्मृतिरुच्यते ।
पदार्थस्तु न चैवास्ति न भूतो न भविष्यति ॥ १७ ॥

bhūtasyāntaḥ padārthasya smaraṇaṃ smṛtirucyate |
padārthastu na caivāsti na bhūto na bhaviṣyati || 17 ||

Reminiscence means the retention of past things, in our remembrance or inward memory; but what can we remember, when there nothing was nor is, nor shall ever be anything?
